The most experienced level of Cal Ripken Baseball is played under the Official Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. The game is played on a 70-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 50 feet.
The 12U division is designed for 11 and 12-year-old players. League Age is determined the age of the player on April 30, 2018.
All players new to the 12U Baseball division must attend one of two player skills evaluations at the College of Southern Maryland in LaPlata. No cleats are permitted on the gym floor.
- Saturday February 10, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- Sunday February 11, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Following evaluations, players will be drafted to create teams of equal strength. CCYL will take the first 130 players that sign up. After that, players will be placed on a waiting list. If there is additional space at the end of the registration deadline, 10-year old’s playing at a high level may be considered at the discretion of the 12U baseball commissioner and Board of Directors.
The 12U Baseball division will be scheduled to play 2 games per week. Practices will likely be held during the weeks before the start of the season as well as during the season. Practice and game times may vary, with practice and game locations being held at various fields throughout Charles County.
