Since its inception in 1984, Babe Ruth Softball has shown tremendous growth. It has become a premier softball program throughout the United States and Canada.
The primary emphasis of Babe Ruth Softball is on the local league season: education, skill development, participation for players at all levels of athletic ability, and to ensure the participants have FUN.
The 12U division (Majors) is recommended for 11 and 12 year old girls. League age is determined by how old the player will be on December 31, 2009. Among teammates of their own age and experience level, players continue building and refining their fundamental skills while they begin to understand game strategy.
It is recommended that a player join the appropriate age division and Babe Ruth Softball discourages a 12U player from playing up. To move 12-year-olds up, even very advanced ones, is normally not in the best interest of the player, the team she is leaving, or the team she is joining. The 12U team she is leaving most likely loses one of its strongest players. The 14U (or 16U) team she is joining most likely gains a player with an ability level lower than most of the other starters on the team. Where the 12-year-old was in the spotlight as a 12U player, she may now be in the shadows of the older, more experienced players on her new team. This would translate into less playing time in the older division. Moving a player up prematurely could cause her to lose interest in softball altogether.
A highlight of Babe Ruth Softball is its annual tournament trail. Tournament teams from each local league are eligible to participate in District competition with winners advancing to the State and Regional levels. At the 12U level players have the additional opportunity to advance to the 12U World Series.
