BABE RUTH BASEBALL 17-18 DIVISION

THE 17-18 DIVISION is one of 3 BABE RUTH BASEBALL Divisions offered by CCYL.  Baseball League Age in this division is different than the other divisions of baseball offered by CCYL.  It is determined by how old the player was on December 31, 2009.  All Babe Ruth Baseball games are played on the regulation 90-foot diamond/60-foot 6-inches pitching distance.  All new players to the age division may be required to attend the player skills evaluation which, if necessary, will be held March 13th and 14th at the Armory in La Plata.  Opening Day for all the Babe Ruth divisions isn't until May 10th, right after high schools finish their regular season, and runs for about 7 weeks to the end of June.  This way players can play both with minimal conflict.

This section is for the 17-18 age group, which per Babe Ruth Baseball, also allows 19-year-olds born on or after January 1, 1991 to play.

Bats: Players in the 17-18 CCYL Babe Ruth Baseball division are required to use only -3 BESR rated or wooden bats. This is done for safety reasons, mostly to protect the pitchers, and is consistent with the national high school standard.

Mandatory Play Rule: In the CCYL 17-18 Division, every player must play at least 2 innings in the field and bat once.

The CCYL 17-18 division will probably only have 1 or 2 teams. If there are 2 teams, the draft will be from scratch, i.e. nobody returns to their team from the previous year and everyone MUST attend the player skills evaluation and go into the draft. Because there is usually no more than 2 teams, CCYL plays interleague games against 17-18 teams from other counties: probably St. Mary's, Calvert, Frederick, Anne Arundel, and Kent, maybe even a team in northern Virginia. So there is travel involved since about half of the games are away games. The 17-18 Baseball division will likely be scheduled to play 3 to 4 games per week; of those 1 or 2 games will usually be played during the week on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays, with a double-header on Sundays.

If you have any questions please contact the Babe Ruth Baseball Commissioner, Chris Strissel, at

***The last day to register & be guaranteed a spot is March 6th.  After that a $10 late fee applies plus there is no guarantee your child will have a spot on a team, they may be wait-listed.  This is because we have to plan for the number of teams, get managers, order uniforms, etc.  However, we will do whatever we can to get all the kids in the league that we can.
