12U MAJORS Baseball:
The most experienced level of Cal Ripken Baseball is played under the Official Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. Baseball League Age is determined by how old the player will be on April 30, 2010. The game is played on a 70-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 50 feet. In order to encourage the league to train more pitchers and to protect the young arms of our players, there are rules that set the maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch in a calendar week. Regulation games consist of six innings or four innings if a game is called. 12U Division tournament all stars experience the chance for post-season tournament competition with the chance at district, state, regional, and World Series levels of play.

2010 Spring baseball -
The CCYL 12U Baseball Division is designed primarily for 11 and 12 year old players. Evauluations for 12U players will be February 20th and 21st at the Armory in La Plata. All players new to the division must be evaluated and subsequently drafted for the purpose of creating teams of equal strength. For details related to our 12U Division guidelines and information, as well as how special draft situations are handled, please refer to the Policy and Procedures Manual (in the "Documents" section of our web site) and view our 12U division rules.
This year, CCYL will take the first 130 eleven and twelve year old players that sign up, and that will comprise the 12U division.
******************************************************************************************
Signing up and paying as early as possible this year in the 12U division to ensure your son/daughter a spot on a team is very important with this limit. The deadline for signing up without a late fee is February 7th.
*** Note ***
The 12U division is on a 130 player limit, and that just because the last date to sign up is February 7th, the division could fill up before that.
******************************************************************************************
Anyone signing up after the first 130 eleven and twelve year old players will be put on a waiting list and added into the 12U division (first 130) on a case by case scenario by the order of registation to the waiting list.
Some examples why a player would be taken out of the 12U division after registering, and a player on the waitlist is added might be:
*Parent signing up but not paying registation fee
*player quitting
*Player gets injured
*CCYL can not contact parent by Feb. 7th deadline
All former CCYL players will be emailed the information about registration starting on January 1st, 2010, and all other forms of announcing CCYL registrations is underway.
*** Note ***
If there is additional space at the end of the registration deadline for 11 and 12 year olds on February 7th, then 10 year olds playing at a high level may also be considered on a case-by-case scenerio to be added to the 12U division by the 12U commissioner and Board of Directors.
Schedule:
The 12U BB division will be scheduled to play 2 games per week. Most likely, one game will be played on either Monday or Tuesday, and another game will be played on either Thursday or Friday. No games will be scheduled for Wednesdays or weekends if at all possible, however it may be necessary to have make-up games on those days. Practices will likely be held during the weeks before the start of the season as well as during the season. Practice and game times may vary, with practice and game locations being held at various fields throughout Charles County. Any questions, email the 12U commissioner Mike Hanks with any questions.
***The last day to register & be guaranteed a spot is either February 7th or the first 130 players to submit a PAID registration. After that a $10 late fee applies plus there is no guarantee your child will have a spot on a team, they may be wait-listed. This is because we have to plan for the number of teams, get managers, order uniforms, etc.
2010 Fall Season:
The 12U Division for the Fall Season is designed for players that will be moving into the 12U Division from the 10U Division as well as returning 12U players that will be playing again in the spring, or new players to CCYL baseball that will be playing 12U in the spring.
Fall ball is different from Spring baseball in that coaches concentrate on teaching fundamentals of the game in a game situation. Coaches have a more hands on approach during Fall games to help work with players new to the transitions of 12U baseball. It is considered a training season that is a lot less intense for beginning players. Please reference our Policy and Procedures Manual that is available to view on our website for a full description of fall ball or email the commissioner Mike Hanks with any questions.
The season will start in September 2010. The season is scheduled to last 7 weeks. All registration fees are non-refundable. Each player will receive a jersey and hat in addition to the games.
