Welcome to CCYL′s home on the web!

Welcome to the Charles County Youth League (CCYL), where the kids always come 1st!!!

The objective of the CCYL is to instill the values of good sportsmanship, character, community and integrity in our youth. We desire to provide them with an enriching environment where they can reach their goals of sport and exceed their own expectations.

The 4 main pillars that form the foundation of CCYL are:
Have FUN; Do Your Best; Teamwork; & Sportsmanship!!!!
We teach that as long as the kids did those 4 things then they had a good day, win or lose!

CCYL is associated with Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball and Softball.  Our emphasis is to assist children in sportsmanship and skills development.  It is our desire that each child is given a positive environment to play a competitive sport.  It is CCYL's intent to use our website to provide timely, secure information to our CCYL members.  The on-line registration allows our members to register at their convenience.  It provides the CCYL Board of Directors and League Commissioners the ability to more effectively serve the children of Charles County.

Thank You Coaches!!!

Coach James Tyer of the Rookie Rivercats shows what CCYL is all about...the kids!!! Thanks to all you coaches for embracing that!
Now that the 2009 Spring regular season is over I wanted to thank all the managers & coaches (& Team Moms) for all your time, effort, & dedication!  You are the backbone of CCYL...the direct link to the kids.  No matter how much the BOD does to organize the league, CCYL is still only as good as it's coaches.  We are very grateful to have such wonderful coaches.  Thanks so much!  Enjoy your summer & we hope to see you again this Fall & next Spring.

Sincerely,
Charlie Huber
CCYL President

Volunteers Desperately Needed to Host All Stars
by posted 06/29/2009

Dear CCYL Members,

I am resending this note because not a single person has responded to it.  I know many of you volunteer your time to the league as managers, coaches, team mom's, etc. & we are very grateful.  We BOD members work year 'round many hours per week to help make the league successful, including at all stars, but we cannot do it alone.  Hosting all star tournaments is necessary by leagues throughout the state & CCYL does our fair share by hosting 2 per year.  It is our time to shine so the rest of the state can see we are a 1st Class organization that does things right!  But we need your help to make that happen.  All we ask is a few hours of your time.  If just a few of you volunteered to help for 1 game that would be great!  Please seriously reconsider & reply to Jane Pilkerton at
or 301-705-8591 if you would like to volunteer.

We are hosting the state tournaments for the 12 and 13 year olds this year. We need volunteers in order to, once again, provide an awesome and memorable experience for these players. The following jobs are needed for the games being played Friday July 10 - Thursday July 16: announcer, scorekeeper, field preparation, filling water coolers, t-shirt sales, and 50/50 Raffle.

Please contact Jane Pilkerton at or 301-705-8591 if you would like to volunteer. Please let Jane know if you prefer a specific job, want to be teamed up with another volunteer, or only have specific days/times you can volunteer.

Thank you,
Charlie Huber
CCYL President

It's All Star Season! Go Support CCYL Teams!
by posted 06/23/2009

It's that time of the year already...ALL STAR SEASON!  It begins this weekend with the 9 year old baseball all star teams playing at Severn and the 11 year old baseball CCYL White Team playing at Elkridge, June 27-July2.  Take a short drive up to watch some great ball & support our all star teams!

The girls softball MD State all star schedule for all divisions is July 11th & 12th at Kent County's Worton Park (10932 Worton Rd, Worton, MD 21678).  If you've never seen girl's softball played at this level it's quite a treat.  Come on out to support the girls, too!
The MD State winners advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional's:
10U SB - Audubon, PA July 17-20
16U SB - Egg Harbor Township, NJ July 24-27

The rest of the all star baseball tournament schedule can be found at the top of our web site under the "Tournaments" tab.

Hope to see y'all out there & best of luck to our all star teams!

Fall Ball Registration has Begun!
by posted 06/16/2009

Fall Ball Registration is under way & is done via ON-LINE ONLY (sorry, no in-person registrations).  Registration runs through August 15th.  The cost is $60 for all divisions.  After August 15th you can still register but a $10 late fee will apply & there's no guarantee you will be able to be placed on a team so please don't wait that long...sign up early!

The Fall Ball divisions are: Rookie BB, 10U BB, 12U BB, 13-15 BB, & 12U SB.

We highly recommend that your child play up a division in Fall Ball if he/she will be moving up next Spring.  This way they get some experience with the new rules & field size.  For example, if your child is league age 10 now & plays 10U BB then you should register him/her for 12U BB this Fall.

Typically there is not enough interest to have other divisions.  If you are interested in Fall Ball for any other divisions then please contact the appropriate Division Commissioner to express your interest.  If we have enough interest for at least 4 teams in a division then we might do it.

Lightning & Severe Weather Policy
by posted 06/08/2009

If there's lightning or thunder seek shelter immediately!!!  Get in your car with the windows rolled up & stay there for 30 minutes!!!

Just last week on June 3rd, a 12 year old boy was killed and another boy is in critical condition after being struck by lightning at a baseball game in Fredericksburg Virginia. Although the umpires had suspended the game and ordered all players off the fields, several boys had remained and were playing catch when they were struck. This tragedy, just accross the river in Virginia, highlights the importance of respecting how unpredictable and deadly lightning can be.

Don't take chances with lightning. If it can be seen or heard then its not safe to be out.  Safety is far more important than completing a game or practice so here is the official CCYL lightning & severe weather policy that ALL Divisions MUST follow :

************

In the case of severe weather or lightning, games should be suspended to ensure the safety of all participants and observers. Whenever lightning can be seen or thunder heard, or when wind or other weather conditions make it unsafe to continue play, umpires have complete authority to suspend play. Additionally, a resident Board member or county field supervisor present in the park may determine that it’s not safe to continue play. In that case, the umpires for any CCYL games in progress in the affected park will be immediately notified and play suspended until its safe to resume play.

When play is suspended because of lightning, all personnel should leave the ball field and take shelter in substantial buildings or vehicles with the windows rolled up. AVOID small rain shelters, sun shelters and dugout areas. These are not safe from lightning. AVOID going underneath trees. Trees "attract" lightning.  AVOID metal fences, gates, tall light poles and power poles.

Wait 30 minutes after the last observed lightning or thunder before leaving shelter. In the case of lightning, play shall not be resumed unless no lightning strikes or thunder have occurred for a period of 30 minutes. The maximum amount of time from the first case of lightning to the umpire calling the game is 45 minutes.

Additional information on lightning safety can be found at the National Lightning Safety Institute website, http://www.lightningsafety.com/."

***********

If anyone (player, parent, coach, etc.) sees lightning or hears thunder then please bring it to the umpire's attention immediately!!!

Please do not get mad at the umpires for suspending the game due to lightning or thunder.  Instead applaud them for keeping the kids and everyone else safe!  Seek shelter immediately!  Do NOT hang out in the dugouts or in the stands.  Do NOT return earlier than 30 minutes.  You may think you are safe just because the lightning appears far away, or is just cloud-to-cloud "heat lightning", or you can only hear thunder but can't see any lightning...but you are NOT safe in those conditions.  Get to your cars immediately with the windows rolled up & stay there for 30 minutes!!!  BE SAFE!!!

Thanks for adhering to this very important policy!

Action Photos
by posted 04/19/2009

There is an internet link to view and purchase action photos taken on Opening Day and thereafter.  If you have not visited this site, you are in for a treat.

Please go to www.sportpicsdirect.com and click on the pictures for CCYL.

There are thousands of pictures of CCYL players in action.  When you have decided on your favorites, the cost to order the photos are very reasonable.  Even better... when you order, the photographer will donate a % of your purchase back to CCYL.  It is my hope that that our order volume will increase significantly and make it worthwhile for these fine photographers to provide this service to CCYL in the future.

If they did not take action pics of your team yet, fear not, I'm sure they will get to you soon!  Please check back weekly.

Enjoy!

Manager′s Must Enter Game Results & Pitch Counts
by posted 04/19/2009

Hi Managers,
ALL managers for teams except T-Ball, Rookie Baseball, & 8U Softball MUST report your game score & pitch count after every game.  It is the ONLY way we keep track of standings! Note: pitch counts are for baseball only, not softball.

About baseball pitch counts...the purpose is to protect young arms.  So please keep track of both your team's pitch counts plus the opposing team's pitch counts.  As the opposing team's pitcher gets close to the max limit please bring that to the opposing manager's attention.  If there's a big discrepansy then please solve it right then.  If you are both within a few pitches then that's good & close enough.  CCYL does not have official scorers who monitor official pitch count - it is up to the managers to get together & be reasonable for the sake of the kids.  If a pitcher is at his limit & is in the middle of a batter then let him finish pitching to that batter.  Again, the point is to protect young arms, NOT to try to win on a technicality.

Here's how to report your scores & pitch counts:

1. Log into the web site by clicking on the Admin tab & using your manager password.
2. On the top menu bar click on "Team", make sure Season says "2009", navigate to your division, then navigate Team to whatever your team name is.
3. Once into your team page on the left side menu click on "Results"
4. The list of your team's games should be there.  Simply go to the game you need to enter results in, click on the little icon for "Edit Game Results" & enter the score making sure to put your team score in the proper "Runs" box as well as your opponent's team score in their proper "Runs" box.  Then click on "Submit" in the bottom left.
Note: You MUST click on Submit to enter the results.
If you did this correctly the page will go back to the main Results page & will now show the score of your game.
5. Now you must also enter the innings pitched & pitch count pitching stats for every pitcher on YOUR team only (even though you keep track of the other team's pitch counts it is THEIR responsibility to enter it for themselves - this is to avoid problems).  Remember that pitching even just 1 pitch in an inning counts as 1 full inning pitched for that pitcher.  Only enter in whole # innings for each pitcher.  Click on the Greek symbol "Sigma" to enter the game statistics.  You can put in any & all stats that you want for your team, but you MUST put in innings pitched & pitch counts for all pitchers of that game!
Click on "Submit" in the bottom right corner.
Note Again: You MUST click on Submit to enter the results.
6. Done.  If you did it right then you should be able to go back in & see all the results & stats you just entered.  You should also now be able to click on "Standings" & see the updated standings for the division.

If you have a dispute with the score of the game the opposing manager entered then please contact the opposing manager to straighten it out.  If you can't get it straight then contact your division Commissioner immediately.

If you have any questions please contact your division Commissioner.  Thanks.
